Battle of Blair Mountain Historic Site
The site where 10,000 striking union miners fought for recognition of their union, UMWA, against coal operators from Aug. 31 to Sept. 4, 1921. At the governor’s request, federal troops were sent in. Miners were forced to withdraw after 16 deaths.
