Coal Miner’s Memorial
Honors workers who have perished in mine accidents, including 70 who were killed in an explosion near Fairmont in 1968. Recognizes the importance of underground coal mining in the Sheridan County area from the 1800s until 1950. In 1950 surface mining became the preferred method of mining coal.
